The Turtle Ridge Loop is a newly added trail option to the Irvine Open Space area which anyone can do 7AM-Sunset daily. You do not need to be on a special docent-led ride to access this loop.
The parking area at the Bommer Meadows trailhead has about a dozen spots and bathrooms. If no parking is available there, you can alternative park over at Turtle Rock Community Park which by the way is open until 10PM daily.
Although this is a short loop (Approximately 5.65 miles), you’ll do nearly 1000′ of climbing. If you ride it counter-clockwise, most of that climbing is on pavement. So it’s a good beginner, or quick work out, or good addition to other riding in the area, such as the Irvine Loop which is open for use anytime.
You can ride this in either direction, but if you go clock-wise, that’s not really a beginner option. Also, when entering the Turtle Ridge Community, you’ll notice a stair case leading to a dirt trail on the right. This is the same trail which you connect to by taking the pavement partly up. If you were to do the route clock-wise, this would be a nice way to come down. But going up it at that point would require some walking up a few stair cases.
