This route combines parts of the San Diego Creek Bikeway, the Irvine Loop, and a little bit of street riding to complete a 16 mile loop with about 882 feet of climbing – entirely on pavement. The steepest part of the loop is about a 3.5 mile section from the UCI campus to the top of Summit Park where you gain 600 feet of elevation in about 3.5 miles. Summit Park is a grind, but I was able to ride up it on a single speed non-stop. The reward for all this climbing is a stunning view of East Orange County and a pretty long and fun downhill ride to get back to Windrow Community Park.
NOTE: You’ll reach a gate as you’re going up Summit Park. There’s an access sidewalk around the gate in the middle of the street.
