This is a 100% fire road climb which begins at Blue Jay Campground. The turn around point is the payoff of this nearly 12 mile climb: Santiago Peak at approximately 5,673′, the tallest peak in Orange County. Count on this taking 4-6 hours. There is no water along the way and cell phones may not work out there. So be prepared!
This would be a great camp-and-ride adventure! (Camp sites are $20-28 per night.) Reservations can be made online at http://www.recreation.gov/ or by calling (877) 444-6777.
Below is a map of the ride route, but you probably won’t need it. The fire road you’re looking for and will stay on for the entire ride is called the Main Divide (3S04).
