Staring at the parking area of the “Duck Ponds” in Irvine, we’ll head through the UCI campus area over to Summit Park. A little ways up Summit Park, the dirt climb up to the top of Turtle Ridge begins. The single track down from Turtle Ridge is awesome, and well worth the climb.
From the bottom of Turtle Ridge, we head north out of Bommer Canyon on the Cattle Crest trail and then through Bommer Meadows – all dirt and super fast through the meadows.
Once at Shady Canyon Drive, we’ll head back to the duck ponds (paved, mostly downhill).
The round trip distance will be about 10 miles and total trip time should 2 hours or less. You’ll get a decent amount of climbing heading up to Turtle Ridge.
The duck ponds parking area is a few hundred yards south of Michelson, on Riparian View.
The weather forecast for the morning is mid 70’s when we start our climb, and 80s while we’re descending. So it shouldn’t be too hot to enjoy our ride.
